About Us

40 years of coaching in the community

How it all began

In 1981 we started running Gym and Football holiday courses with just a handful of children, in a small field in Meads in Eastbourne. Over 40 years later, we're just as passionate today about helping children progress through sporting activities as were when we first started out. We now coach over 500 children a week and also run popular Football and Gym holiday camps throughout the year. For over four decades we've been incredibly proud to be part of the local sporting community.

A child centred environment

Chris and Cheryl have a firm belief that the earlier a child is exposed to movement and creative skills in a positive, active and creative environment the quicker they will progress in developing their gross motor skills. A main aim of our coaching is to develop the confidence of children of all abilities and backgrounds through co-ordination, movement and ball-play. Pursuing this philosophy they have pioneered a pre-school movement centre; innovated schemes of work and coaching plans for pre-school, primary and secondary age groups. C.A.C.L. has coached over 8,000 children during the past 40 years.

Sport in the community

Chris and Cheryl are proud of the impact that C.A.C.L. has had on so many young people and their families. in 2020 we will be celebrating our 40th Anniversary and many of our initial members are now bringing their children to be coached at C.A.C.L.! In addition to providing a 'hub' where children feel safe and valued, we have become an environment where friendships flourish and social skills develop. Could do with a bit more copy?

Why is sport so important?

We believe that young people engaging in physical activities with us will have the opportunity to develop in sport which will assist them in building character and embed key values such as team-work, fairness and respect for themselves and others. In addition their participation in sport will make an extensive contribution towards their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. Coupled with this are the positive mental and physical health outcomes which are paramount to their well-being and confidence.

Our Accreditations

In December 2007 C.A.C.L. Gym Club was among the first 400 in the country to be officially recognised by the British Gymnastics Association and was awarded the prestigious GymMark status. Clubs are assessed and tested and need to prove they are safe, effective and child-friendly to achieve this recognition.

We'd love to hear from you!
